You may ask what transformation can happen in a 2-hour blitz? For my giveaway competitions I like to giveaway a 2-hour blitz. This gives me the opportunity to show a client how the service works, how the decluttering is done quickly and gives them the motivation to continue. I want to share with you how productive a 2- hour session can be and literally transform a living space in a home.
This month I had a winner, a teacher named Sarah, who lives in a one bedroom apartment in the Greens, Dubai. The apartment has limited storage in the bathroom, but ample storage in the kitchen. Sarah was very excited to have won the session as she had not experienced a session with a professional organizer before. On the day I arrived with my assistant (my handy trolley cart) with bags, boxes and organizing tools for anything that might pop up on the scene. The giveaway session included general decluttering and organizing services, without purchasing storage containers. I had seen photos of the bathroom, laundry cupboard and kitchen so I had an idea of what was needed to get it sorted. After a few questions about how the service works and a good look around the cupboards, we got to work.
The Beginning:Firstly, I had Sarah talk me through her zones and what was bothering her about them. She showed me all the contents of the cupboards and expressed her concerns about her certain items and areas. After snapping a few before photos, we then decided on a plan of action. She wanted me to start in the kitchen as she really wanted the kitchen sorted out; so that is what I did. I recommended she start decluttering another area, the laundry cupboard, as she was ready to get stuck in too. I started with one cupboard: emptied it all, cleaned it, categorized items and placed them back in zones of functionality and frequency of use.
The Middle:We both found a good pace of working, unpacking and wiping down. Sarah told me how motivated she was starting to feel by taking everything out of the cupboards and deciding what she needed to keep or let go. I got through the kitchen cupboards fairly quickly, as there were not too many items to declutter. I had used some tupperwares to store pastas and packets of spices. The main goal was to organize the existing items into zones that are practical and useful for her. After frequently checking in with Sarah, about where she preferred things to go or what she liked, the kitchen was done in an hour and half. She had amazingly decluttered her bathroom cupboard completely and taken the advice of using containers to store her products in. This helped group items together that are easy to find and access. We both worked on the storage cupboard replacing items in better positions for access and use.
The End:Wow - working as a strong team, Sarah and I had decluttered and organized her kitchen, bathroom and storage cupboard in 2 hours. We only had one bag of rubbish to throw away and some pots to donate. There was also no extra expense on storage containers. I was so impressed with her stamina and willingness to let go of items and embrace the change. She said how much lighter she felt that everything was packed away neatly in the right place and that there were no unused products taking up space. It was definitely a giveaway worth giving away. I was so happy that I could transform the clutter into a calm space, that Sarah could love even more. Take a look at the video for before and after shots.
